Happy Saturday everyone! Today's blog post is going to focus on allll of the skin care essentials. I have to say, I never used to be a huge skin care fanatic.. I think it honestly came down to me being too lazy to add in any extra steps to my nighttime routine. Thinking about it now, it makes me want to shake my sixteen year-old self! I quickly learned that a good skin care routine doesn't need to be super time consuming, and it also doesn't need to break the budget. It's so important to take care of our skin, not just for acne or blemish purposes, but to create healthy habits to strengthen and prepare our skin for down the road. My mom's always telling me she wishes she could go back to her 20's and start her skin care routine way earlier than she did. So, here I am! I've been following this routine for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier.
1. Cleansers
Wash. Your. Makeup. Off. There is nothing worse than going to bed with a full face of makeup on. You're just asking for clogged pores and unhappy skin! I start my skin care routine with Neutrogena's "Fresh Foaming Cleanser". It's a super gentle face wash that removes makeup, while cleansing the skin. I've been using it for years and years and have a bunch of my friends hooked on it. After this, I'll take a cotton pad and use Garnier's "Micellar Water" all over my face, just to remove any excess that was missed in the previous step. This micellar water is so soothing and it doesn't require you to rinse afterwards, which proves how gentle it is on the skin. This duo does a perfect job at removing everything off my skin. The best part is that they both can be found at the drugstore!
2. Toners & Moisturizers
Before moisturizing but after cleansing, a toner is a must. For those of you not familiar with face toners, they basically aim at balancing the pH of our skin, and minimizing our pores. They also act as an extra layer of protection. Thayer's "Witch Hazel" facial toner is amazing. I spray it over my skin after cleansing and I immediately can feel it working into my skin and doing it's job. Toner's do tend to be a little bit drying, which is why following with a good moisturizer is crucial. For me, I need a super hydrating moisturizer because of my naturally dry skin. The Burt's Bees "Skin Nourishment" cream is my holy grail moisturizer. As I've mentioned before, I do love an all-natural product. Something about knowing the exact ingredients going into my body puts me at ease. There's no harsh chemicals in this cream, so I love that it moisturizes my skin organically. AND, it's made in Canada - that's a huge plus too, right?
3. Serums & Facial Sprays
The best part about serums is that they're completely customized to whatever skin care concerns you may have. There are seriously serums out there for every skin care need you may have and they're known for successfully delivering beneficial ingredients deeper into the skin. I use No7's Hydra Luminous "Water Concentrate" serum, which specifically targets dry skin. I use my serum once a week with my rose quartz facial roller. I don't use a serum every day just because I don't want my skin to become completely reliant on it for moisture.. I basically use it as a treat to my skin! My rose quartz facial roller is made from genuine jade, which not only decreases facial puffiness and tension, but it also enhances product absorption into the skin - which is why I use it after applying my serum. Always remember to roll upwards and outwards for best results! After all is said and done, I love spritzing on my Mario Badescu facial spray. It's the perfect way to add some extra moisture and radiance to your skin from the aloe, herbs and rosewater infused in it. I also use this mist to set my makeup quite often - it's an awesome 2-in-1 product!
Well, that concludes my skin care routine ladies! I know it may seem like a lot, but I promise it doesn't take longer than five minutes and it's so worth it. I've seen such a difference in my skin since adding in these steps and I know my future self will thank me. Just remember, there is no better investment than investing in yourself! You're worth that five minutes.
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed,
